Cuban Canoeists Go for Olympic Gold

HAVANA TIMES — Cuban athletes Jose Carlos Bulnes and Serguei Torres today qualified to compete in the final race for the gold in the 1,000 meter men’s double canoe (C-2) at the 2012 London Olympic Games, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

The pair came in third in their semifinals heat with a time of 3:41.619 minutes, behind China and the Czech Republic.

In the final battle for the gold medal — set for Thursday in the Eton Dorney Canal — also participating will be twosomes from Germany, Azerbaijan, Russia, Belarus and Romania.
