HAVANA TIMES — Cuba’s Council of State announced today that by the end of this year, general elections will be held to select delegates to municipal and provincial assemblies and deputies to the parliament.
“The elections of delegates to municipal assemblies of People’s Power for terms of two and a half years will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2012,” read the announcement in the official Granma newspaper.
In those districts where no candidate obtains more than 50 percent of the valid votes cast, a second round will be held on Sunday, October 28.
No date was specified as to when elections will be held for delegates to the provincial assemblies or for deputies to the National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament), whose mandate is for a term of five years.
