Cuban Discus Thrower Yarelis Barrios Wins Silver in Zurich

HAVANA TIMES — Cuban athlete Yarelis Barrios (who was a silver medalist at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, the World Championships in Osaka in 2007 and in Berlin in 2009), once again walked away with the silver medal in the discus throw – this time at the Zurich Diamond League athletics rally in that Swiss city, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

Barrios sent her implement flying 61.73 meters to win the silver, surpassed only by the 63.97 meter toss by Croatia’s Sandra Perkovic, the newly crowned champion of London’s 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

At that same sporting event, Jamaican phenomena Usain Bolt continued to shine brightly as the fastest man on the planet by winning in the 200 meter sprint at a record time of 19.66 seconds. In addition, Bolt’s countryman, Yohan Blake, dominated the 100 meters with a time of 9.76 seconds.
