HAVANA TIMES, Jan 26 — Former All-Star pitcher Norge Luis Vera was discharged from the hospital today after having been admitted there a month ago in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba.

He continues to recuperate from an automobile accident that had left him in critical condition, reported Cuban national television news.

The pitcher remains in a cast that covers his left hip and thigh to prevent dislocation, but he was reported as being: “Out of danger, with his vital parameters at normal levels; in fact, he’s alert and communicating with ease.”

Vera, considered one of Cuba’s greatest pitchers of all time, announced his official retirement last September, after he turned 40.
