Cuban President Welcomes ECLAC Head

HAVANA TIMES — Cuban President Raul Castro on Wednesday received the executive secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Alicia Barcena, who is on a working visit to the island, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

Castro thanked the commission for promoting cooperation with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), an institution over which Cuba holds the pro tempore presidency this year.

During the meeting, the excellent state of relations between ECLAC and the island were emphasized, in addition to other topics on the international agenda – such as the global economic crisis, environmental crises, sustainable development and food prices.
