Cuban Trumpeter Arturo Sandoval Wins Grammy
HAVANA TIMES — The Cuban trumpeter Arturo Sandoval won the award for Best Jazz Ensemble Album during the ceremony of the 55th Grammy Awards, held on Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
In doing so, this was Sandoval’s ninth Grammy, this time with his award-winning CD Dear Diz (Every Day I Think Of You), dedicated to legendary trumpet master and composer Dizzy Gillespie (1917-1993).
At 63 years, Sandoval was the only Cuban musician honored at the principal competitive ceremony of the US recording industry.
The prominent jazz artist was on tour in Spain in 1990 when he decided to remain abroad. Ever since then has resided in the United States.
