Cuba’s Dayron Robles Wins 60-Meter Hurdles in Stockholm

HAVANA TIMES, Feb 24 — Cuban track star Dayron Robles ascended to the throne on Thursday in the 60-meter hurdles at the indoor meet in Stockholm, after his principal rival, Chinese runner Liu Xiang, was disqualified for jumping the gun.

The Prensa Latina news agency reports that the current world record holder and Olympic champion covered the distance in 7.66 seconds, leaving behind his countryman Orlando Ortega (7.68) and Belarusian hurdler Maksim Lynsha (7.73), who picked up the silver and bronze medals.

The pace set by Robles was far from his most ambitions, as the Cuban holds the third best mark on an indoor track, with a time of 7.33.

Fellow Cuban athlete Yargelis Savigne won the silver medal in the triple jump.
