Cuba’s Paquito D’ Rivera Wins Grammy

HAVANA TIMES – The award for Best Latin Jazz Album went to Cuba’s Paquito D’ Rivera and the Brazilian Trio Corrente for “Song for Maura,” delivered last night in Los Angeles. It was the fifth Grammy for D’ Rivera, 65, who also has six Latin Grammy awards.

The Trio Corrente, from Sao Paulo, is composed of Fabio Torres, piano; Paulo Paulelli bass, and Edu Ribeiro, percussion.

Two other Cuban musicians competed for the best latin jazz album, pianists Omar Sosa (Eggún) and Roberto Fonseca (Yo) .

Meanwhile, Puerto Rican Draco Rosa won the Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album of Music for “Life.”

In November last year, and Draco Rosa won the Latin Grammy for Best Album of the Year for Cuando era niño, the singer was part of the Menudo band along with Ricky Martin.
