First Cuban Athletes Off for London
HAVANA TIMES — A total of 48 Cuban athletes traveled to London on Sunday as part of the delegation that will represent the island at the Olympic Games set for July 27 to August 12, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
This first of two groups will complete its training in that European country. It is composed of athletes and coaches in cycling, diving, archery, shooting, rowing, table tennis and weightlifting.
The overall Cuban delegation will include a total of 110 athletes in 14 disciplines, and is expected to surpass its past performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, when it won only two titles (by Greco-Roman wrestler Mijain Lopez and hurdler Dayron Robles).
