Leo Brouwer Festival Starts Today in Havana

HAVANA TIMES — The fourth edition of Leo Brouwer Festival of Chamber Music opens its doors today in Havana with a panel devoted to Compay Segundo on the 105th anniversary of his birth, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

Researchers, friends, family and artists discussed the life and work of this renowned Cuban musician, while chords sounded in tribute to that member of the Buena Vista Social Club who wrote their signature song “Chan Chan.”

The opening concert has been booked for Thursday, when the audience at the Karl Marx Theater here in the capital can listen to some of the guests, such as the sisters Katia and Marielle Labeque, who will premiere their second version of the piece West Side Story.
