Life Sentences for Murderers of Emigrants
HAVANA TIMES — A court in Artemisa sentenced two Cubans to life imprisonment for the murder and defrauding of five people, four of whom lost their lives, reports Granma newspaper today.
In an alleged illegal exit from the country last June 7 in the town of Bauta, province of Artemisa, seven people were linked to a scam to rob a group of Cubans trying to leave the country by illegal means.
Jorge Luis Salazar and Reinier Weapons were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and robbery; and must also compensate the families of the victims.
Rafael Sánchez and Yassel Montero, received 25 and 22 years in prison, respectively, for robbery with violence, while Michel Luis García, Yusniel Grimont and Jorge Ramón Suárez, were sentenced to 10, 8 and 8 years of imprisonment, for the crime of people trafficking.
