Parliament to Discuss New Territorial Division

HAVANA TIMES, July 21 — The National Assembly of People’s Power (parliament) will discuss the new Law of Modification to the Political-Administrative Division in its next regular session, to be held in the Cuban capital July 28-August 2, reported IPS on Tuesday.

The law establishes the division of Havana province into two territories, Mayabeque and Artemisa, and other restructurings in Matanzas and Guantánamo.  Cuba currently has 14 provinces and one special municipality.

  • So what do the citizens of these districts think of this? There should be a formally-democratic process of binding consultation originating with these people, and not simply “consultation” per se — which in stalinist systems as in the imperialist West, can and usually are essentially meaningless and a sham, with the decisions generally always being made somewhere else, often before-hand.
