Pope’s Cuba Visit Confirmation Expected

HAVANA TIMES, Dec. 6 — Benedict XVI might officially confirm his trip to Cuba and Mexico during a Mass in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe on December 12, according to Notimex.

The trip, which would be between March 23 and 28 next year, would have “very few stops,” according to statements by Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi.

This would be the second time that a pope visited Cuban soil. John Paul II visited Cuba in January 1998.

The main purpose of Benedict XVI’s trip would be the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre figurine, the patron saint of Cuba.
