Protestor Released in Santiago de Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, April 16 — The social worker Andres Carrion Alvarez, who was detained and roughed up just before the Mass of Benedict XVI in Santiago de Cuba on March 26, was released late Friday, reported the website of the Miami-based “Radio Marti.”

“I went to his house and I just saw him personally. There he was, just after being coming out of those Castro dungeons. His physical condition is normal and his emotional balance is good. He looked OK,” said Anger Antonio Blanco, the coordinator of the opposition group Patriotic Union of Cuba.

Carrion, 38, who has a degree in social and occupational rehabilitation, was detained twenty days in the Police Operations Unit of Santiago de Cuba after shouting “Down with Communism” from among the throng attending the Catholic Mass.
