Remedios, Cuba Celebrates 495th
HAVANA TIMES, June 24 — The city of Remedios, one of the first eight townships founded by the Spanish colonizers in Cuba, is celebrating today its 495th anniversary, reported IPS. The city, located to the north of the central province of Villa Clara, is especially known for its “parrandas,” a carnival whose fireworks and floats attract every year thousands of tourists. The next Remedios carnival takes place this coming December.
Remedios does not celebrate a Carnival. Remedios celebrates the Parrandas, probably the Caribbean’s oldest and most beautiful festivity.
