Son of Compay Segundo Dead at 68
HAVANA TIMES — Cuban musician Basilio Repilado, the son of Compay Segundo (the famed Buena Vista Social Club member and an exponent of the traditional trova), died on Monday in Havana at the age of 68, said sources with the Cuban Music Institute.
The remains of the backup singer and clave player for the group founded by his father will be cremated at the request of his family, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
Together with his brother, Salvador, Basilio continued the work of Compay Segundo after the elder’s death in 2003, taking the most authentic Cuban music to international stages all around the world.
