Spuds, Peas Cut from Cuba Ration Cards
HAVANA TIMES, Nov. 7 – Cuban authorities eliminated peas and potatoes from the ration card, it was reported in the network of retail commercial establishments, noted IPS.
Previously only available through the neighborhood “bodega” stores, those products can now be freely purchased at higher prices than those subsidized by the state.
President Raul Castro has warned that government subsidies must be cut to face the hard times in the Cuban economy, affected both by internal production deficiencies and the global crisis.
