Three Cuban Movies at Miami Festival

HAVANA TIMES — Three of the most recent Cuban films will be shown as part of the program of the 30th Miami International Film Festival, to be held from March 1 to 10, reported the Café Fuerte website.

Melaza, by Carlos Lechuga, and La piscine, by Carlos Machado Quintela, will compete for the Best Latin American Debuting Work Award, while Amor crónico, by the famous actor and director Jorge Perugorria, will be screened at the Gusman Center, the venue of the event, though outside of the formal competition.

Melaza and La piscine were chosen by film critics on the island as among the best feature films in 2012, and they will now compete for a $5,000 prize.

The Miami Festival annually attracts about 70,000 spectators and more than 400 professionals in the worldwide film industry.
