Ukrainian Church Recognizes Cuba for Care Given to the Children of Chernobyl

HAVANA TIMES — Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Kiev on Tuesday presented the Cuban government with a certificate in recognition of the medical treatment provided over 22 years to child victims of the Chernobyl accident.

The award was given to Emilio Pevida, the counselor of the Cuban embassy in the central European country, at a ceremony during a cultural festival recognizing the work of defenders of that nation on the eve of Victory over Fascism Day.

Several speakers directed words of gratitude to the Cuban people and government, whose humanitarian work has assisted more than 24,000 Ukrainian children, pointed out the news note.
