US Colonel Says Change Cuba Policy
HAVANA TIMES, Feb. 20 – The lifting of the U.S. embargo on Cuba would have positive consequences for both countries, affirmed Colonel Alex Crowther, researcher professor of national security affairs at the Strategic Studies Institute United States Army War College, reported IPS.
While saying that the embargo “was an appropriate response at the time within the milieu of the Cold War,” Crowther now believes the measure is outdated and should be abolished.
The officer lists four fundamental reasons to eliminate the embargo: the high cost for the Cuban people, its use as an excuse by the Caribbean country’s government, the need to open a market for U.S. products and Washington’s change of image before the international community regarding this issue.
