But the ideas of the corporate elite, with rare exceptions, are always supported by lies to defame and discredit their opponents. Through this they neutralize workers or win converts to their side.
One can always criticize the shortcomings and imperfections that exist in any human endeavor, just as one can point to the incorrect or irresponsible attitudes of individuals who have caused extensive damage to the image of the Cuban health care system.
It’s not that we revolutionaries are enemies of criticism – quite the contrary. The revolution’s leaders themselves have repeatedly expressed the need for criticism in order to improve the management of government; but such criticism must be done professionally, if indeed one is really seeking to solve problems.
I will never forget a phrase used by Pope John Paul II during his 1998 visit to Havana: “Globalizing Solidarity.” The word “solidarity” stands for one of the most sublime feelings of human beings, along with love and friendship.
The situation created in Libya to overthrow the legitimate government of that country began with the organization of rebel groups to destabilize the country. More recently they have created a similar situation in Syria in order to apply the same recipe as in Libya.
As you may recall, the old Bush Plan for Democracy in Cuba (i.e. the destruction of the revolution), promised to close all scientific research centers in our country because they were not — according to them — engaged in activities that were “appropriate” for developing countries.
One of the accusations made by some of those who criticize the Cuban Revolution is that it has not achieved what it promised. Nonetheless, the Moncada Program — as outlined by Fidel Castro in his defense and published under the title “History Will Absolve Me,” has been over fulfilled.
For the anti-Cuban propaganda, people in other countries “emigrate,” but those who leave Cuba are “fleeing.” One has to look more closely to see which ones are really migrating and which ones are fleeing.
The neoliberal model of capitalist development has failed along all lines. That’s not just my opinion, it’s the assessment of every economist who has their head on straight.
