A couple of days ago I heard a story in which they criticized the United States for having so many homeless people on the streets. That was something that made me laugh, but at the same time I felt a certain unease. In my view, the author of the story must live in another world, or they drive to work every day, or hasn’t walked the streets of Havana for quite a long time.

The only thing that’s said is “the blockade is to blame.” This is what’s always heard when something doesn’t work right in Cuba like it should. I would like for the economic embargo to be eliminated if only to see if that resolved most of our problems.

Today in Cuba there exist situations that are somewhat complicated. At least for me, knowing that I’m shouldering a debt to the government makes me feel kind of uncomfortable.

If there’s one thing I understand clearly, it’s that I wouldn’t like to live in a country that wasn’t my own, nor one under a capitalist regime. But what’s capitalism, really? And is Cuba truly a socialist country?
