Cuba Picks up Two Gold Medals at Brazilian Track Meet

HAVANA TIMES, May 14 — Two Cubans (triple jumper Alexis Copello and shot putter Misleydis Gonzalez) climbed to the top of the podium in the Track and Field Grand Prix in Uberlandia, Brazil, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

Copello achieved a mark of 16.63 meters to overtake the local contender Jefferson Sabino and fellow islander Osviel Hernandez, while Gonzalez sent her implement flying 18.40 meters to overtake both Chile’s Natalia Duco and Brazilian shot putter Geisa Rafaela Arcanjo.

Cuba also obtained a silver medal for Robeto Janet in the hammer throw (73.15 meters) and a bronze for Carlos Veliz in the men’s shot put competition (19.56 meters).
