Cuban Badminton Player in Peruvian Tournament

HAVANA TIMES — Cuban athlete Osleni Guerrero will compete on Thursday in the 17th Pan American Badminton Championship in Lima Peru for four days, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

In his first contest at the Manuel Bonilla Coliseum, the Cuban — ranked 120th in the world — will debut against American player Ryan Chew, who holds the 722nd position.

Should he win, the Cuban will face the winner of the duel between Dominican player Javier Nelson and Brazil’s Luiz Dos Santos, while some analysts believe Guerrero’s the most difficult opponent will be US competitor Sattawa Pongnairat American, who was second in the pre-qualifications.

The Cuban, the silver-medalist in the Pan American Games in Guadalajara in 2011, aims to improve his performance and move up in world rankings.
