Cuban Chess Player Lazaro Bruzon Wins the 2012 Mc Gregor JAHV
HAVANA TIMES — Cuban chess master Lazaro Bruzon won the 2012 JAHV Mc Gregor ITT Open Chess Tournament on Sunday, which concluded in the city of Bogota, Colombia with the participation of 395 contestants from more than 20 nations.
The islander accumulated eight points to beat out Peruvian player Emilio Cordova by a half point, thereby defending his title won in the previous edition of the chess tournament that receives the greatest participation in Latin America.
According to the Prensa Latina news agency, this win — similar to that achieved by him in the Dominican Republic weeks ago — will earn Bruzon several points to make up for recent reductions in his ELO rating (his current ELO is 2,692, down from his previous mark of 2,700).
