OAS Special Commission Set to Arrive in Nicaragua on Monday
The Commission agenda includes meetings with opposition sectors such as the Civic Alliance for Justice and Democracy, mothers of victims of repression and UNAB unity movement.
HAVANA TIMES – Members of the special commission for Nicaragua, created by the Organization of American States (OAS), could arrive in Nicaragua on Monday to meet with sectors of society, including the Ortega regime, according to different opposition sources.
The Commission would also be meeting with opposition sectors such as the Civic Alliance for Justice and Democracy, political parties, mothers of victims of repression of the Ortega regime, the Blue and White National Unity, among others.
At its last General Assembly in Medellin, Colombia, on June 28, 2019, the OAS voted to create this commission to carry out “diplomatic efforts at the highest level”, to seek a direct encounter with Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo and try to find a negotiated solution to the crisis in Nicaragua.
The group is made up of ambassadors from Paraguay, Canada, Jamaica, Argentina and the United States.
After the formation of the commission, on August 30, Daniel Ortega’s regime rejected it as a mechanism that has not been requested by the regime and, in his opinion, is an interference in the internal affairs of Nicaragua.
