Isabel Allende Comments on Trumps Plans for Venezuela

HAVANA TIMES – I am appalled at the bombing and the intention of occupying Venezuela with the obvious goal of seizing the oil. Although I celebrate the fall of Maduro, who usurped the presidency with fraudulent elections, destroyed the economy and the social fabric of the country, and forced millions of Venezuelans into exile, who now may return to their country, this declaration of war by President Trump without even consulting the Congress is reprehensible.

The United States has a long history of intervention in Latin America and other nations with tragic results. What now? Occupation at an enormous cost for Venezuela, both economically and in human lives? For the good of that country that I love as my own, I wholeheartedly wish that this be resolved without escalating the aggression and with minimum suffering.

You obviously have not listened to Trumps many statements since the action taken to arrest the communist thug Maduro.. He has stated numerous times that it was a law enforcement issue, excercising outstanding warrants. The bombing(s) were mainly flash bangs on a massive scale and taking out selected power grid
targets to create mass confusion; it worked. Mr. Trumps has stated emphatically that a military invasion and occupation of Venezuela would be “a lsst resort.”

As far as the county’s oil reserves, he has also stated that it belongs to the people of Venezuela not a handful of corrupt communist party apparagicks. Chavez and Maduro destroyed the oil infrastructure, built largely by American industry) and took the profits to line their own pockets while financing one of Latin Americas largest drug smuggling operations. What little oil that was being sold went to Iran and China at discouted prices in return for their continued support of a dictatorial regime that despite chest pounding speeches, had no regard for the people who actually owned that god given resource.

The current listed output for Venezuelean crude is less than 20 percent of capacity. Trump plans to use US Resources to rebuild or repair the extraction and refining ability to at least 80 percent as quickly as possible as says Venezuelean oil will all be sold on the international market at market prices to any nation wiling to pay for it.

I too hope things settle down quickly so that those who have fled their homeland may return and the rest of the country will have a long and prosperous future and most of all leaders who care about the people of Venezuela more than they care about their grip on power and be extension control of the economy.
