L.A. Beekeepers to Meet in Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, Jan 5 — The Third Latin American Colloquium of Beekeepers, sponsored by various Cuban scientific institutions and the Cuban Society of Beekeepers, will take place from April 3 to 6 in Havana, reported Prensa Latina.

Discussions between farmers and scientists associated with the industry will address issues such as honey-producing plants, pollination and hive management.

The event will coincide with the Fourth Cuban Congress of Apiculture, which will address aspects such as bee-raising economics, genetics and quality control. Participants will also analyze trade in bee products and look at their uses in nutrition and health.

Cuba has 168,000 beehives on more than a thousand farms that aim to reach a total output of 10,000 tons of honey annually.
