Havana Int. Poetry Festival Begins
HAVANA TIMES — With over 200 poets from close to 40 countries, the 16th Havana International Poetry Festival began on Monday and will continue through May 27. This year it is dedicated to the Cuban poet and playwright Virgilio Piñera, and to the creation of Afro-Caribbean poetry.
This poetic gathering will facilitate today’s culmination of “Palabra del Mundo,” a planetary poetic action convened from Havana that links people in hundreds of cities worldwide through reading, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
The event will promote the public dimension of poetry though open readings, exhibitions and concerts in schools, tobacco fabricating shops, community spaces and cultural centers of the country. Its epilogue will be a “poetic action” at the Havana intersection of San Rafael Boulevard and Paseo del Prado on May 26.
