Havana Carnival Begins Tomorrow

HAVANA TIMES — Starting tomorrow and running for ten days, the 2012 Havana Carnival will begin its traditional parade of comparsas (musical groups) through the capital, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

With the idea of unifying the old and the new, renowned troupes from the Cerro and Old Havana neighborhoods — whose establishment dates back to the early twentieth century — will dance along with other young people, such as the “Los Guaracheros de Regla” and the “Caballeros del Ritmo” (the Gentlemen of Rhythm).

Marchers and floats will parade along the Malecon seawall, as usual, always starting at 9:00 p.m. These will be joined by the Tropicana Cabaret Company and the Cuban Television Ballet, among others.

This year the festival will include the Charangas de Bejucal, the National Circus, the Acrobatics Group of the National Revolutionary Police Force and fashion models from the La Maison institute of fashion.
