Cuba Seeking to Host International Taekwondo Tournament
HAVANA TIMES — Cuba will apply to be the host of an international taekwondo tournament during the continental congress of the sports discipline, set for November 7 to 10 in Bolivia, said the national commissioner of the sport, Carlos Banasco, on Monday.
According to the Cuban Agency of Information, the event will serve as a qualification round for several international competitions.
“It’s a right in itself that we have earned, borne out by the outcomes. There are other countries performing at lower levels than us but which organize competitions that earn them points for their rankings,” said sports director.
On that same date, the Bolivian city of Sucre will also host the Pan American Championships of the that sport, but Cuba — the continental monarch of the 2011 Guadalajara games — will not be competing, since the island’s team would not arrive in good sporting shape due to a training pause after the London Olympics, said the coach.
