Director of Cuban National Choir Receives Award in Germany
HAVANA TIMES — The director of the National Choir of Cuba, Digna Guerra, received the 2012 Echo Klassic Award in Germany for her album El Canto quiere ser luz, recorded by the MDG record label, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
A panel consisting of members of the Industry Association, independent experts, and programmers for the ZDF music company in collaboration with Cuban Colibri label, awarded the album, which contains works by Leo Brouwer, Frank Fernandez, Miguel Matamoros, Silvio Rodriguez, Electo Silva and Roberto Valera, among others.
This is the first time a Cuban CD figures among winners of the Echo Klassic, an award that has existed for almost 20 years and annually recognizes the most successful artists in terms of their sales in Germany.
