Colombia Sen. to meet with Fidel Castro

Senator Piedad Córdoba, president of the Colombian Congress’ Peace Commission, will talk with former President Fidel Castro on the possibilities of achieving peace in that South American country, the legislator announced through the Twitter social network. Córdoba hopes to present to the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) an initiative in that sense, which would include the guerrillas and the paramilitary.

US Trapeze Artists Perform in Cuba

The U.S. couple of trapeze artists made up by Sylvia Friedman and Samuel Sion performed at the inauguration of the Circuba 2010 international festival at the Cuban capital’s Karl Marx Theatre. Friedman and Sion are the first circus artists from the United States to perform on the island since 1959.

Congressman Wants Tampa Flights to Cuba

Massachusetts Democratic Representative Bill Delahunt asked U.S. President Barack Obama to allow the operation of flights to and from Cuba in the airport in Tampa, south of Florida, with the aim of facilitating access of Cuban-American families to trips to the island, the Miami-based El Nuevo Herald reported. Until now the authorized airports are in New York, Los Angeles and Miami.

Exhibition in New York for Cuban 5

An exhibition of the art work by Antonio Guerrero, one of the Cuban Five imprisoned in the US for nearly 12 years charged with espionage, will be inaugurated in New York on September 3, announced Benjamin Lamas, member of the solidarity with Cuba committee, which will also organize starting September 12 a month dedicated to giving information about the case.

Cuban Jazz to Norway Festivals

Cuban pianist Alexis Bosch and his Cuban Jazz project will participate starting today and until August 18 in the Oslo Jazz Festival and the Sildajazz, Haugesund and Varanger Festivalen, all in Norway. Bosch is considered an heir to important Cuban jazz musicians such as Felipe Dulzaides, Emiliano Salvador and Chucho Valdés.

Festival for Human Diversity & Nature

PM Records cultural institution, presided over by Cuban singer-songwriter Pablo Milanés, will carry out next September 4 in the Cuban capital the first edition of the Propositions Festival, an alternative space of respect for human diversity and nature.

Cuba Promotes Beer Tourism

Cuba presented the Art of Beer Cultural Route, a tourist package that tours 30 sites in the eastern city of Holguín related to the history and present of that beverage, the local press reported. The initiative opens tomorrow, precisely one week before the start of the carnival in that city, known for the production of the Mayabe beer.
