Lula Heads for Cuba Next Week

Brazilian president Lula da Silva will visit Cuba next week after attending the Rio Summit in Cancun, Mexico. He is scheduled to meet with both Cuban President Raul Castro and former leader Fidel Castro in Havana on Wednesday.

Judge Postpones Posada Carriles Trial

US federal judge Kathleen Cardone accepted a petition from the district attorney’s office to again postpone the trial for Luis Posada Carriles, reported IPS. Posada is accused of perjury and obstruction of justice in the case of the attacks on Cuban hotels in 1997 and lying to the immigration authorities about his illegal entry into the US in 2005.

Wife of US Prisoner Hopes for Accord

Judy Gross, wife of the US citizen imprisoned in Cuba since last December and accused by the island’s government of carrying out espionage work, requested that the governments of both countries reach an agreement to release her husband Alan.
