Vuelta a Cuba Heads West

Joel Mariño of Cardenas, Matanzas won the tenth segment of the Vuelta a Cuba cycling competition on the 185 kilometer stretch from Santa Clara to Cardenas, Matanzas on Thursday. The Vuelta has three remaining stages before concluding on Sunday. On Friday the cyclists will race 120 kilometers to San Antonio de los Baños in rural La Habana province.

South African Nobel Literature Prizewinner Nadine Gordimer said in Havana on Wednesday that the United States should free the Cuban Five, imprisoned for over 11 years in the US on charges of conspiracy to commit espionage.
