Central Cuban Gov. Moves to Fight Dengue in Holguin

The Cuban government has sent its vice minister of Health and the head of the Water Resources Institute from Havana to the province of Holguín to supervise the battle against an outbreak of dengue fever and cholera that has already caused the cancellation of the popular annual carnival, originally set for Aug. 20-23.

Carnival in Holguin Suspended Due to Dengue Outbreak

While the Havana Carnival starts today in the capital, only two weeks before the official start of the 2015 carnival in Holguin, provincial authorities decided to postpone the celebration in view of the critical epidemiological situation faced by the northeastern Cuban city.
