Cuban boxer Toledo Yasnier secured at least a second Olympic bronze medal for the island when he defeated the Kazakhstani slugger Gani Zhailauov in the 60 kilogram category on Monday.

Cuba’s Mijain Lopez has repeated as the Greco-Roman wrestling champ in the 120 kilo division of the London Olympics. Lopez medal gives Cuba a total of three in the current Olympiad. The island now ranks 14th on the overall medals standings

Cuban athlete Lisandra Guerra succeeded in making it into the quarterfinals of the cycling-sprint in the London Olympics on Sunday. For the quarterfinals, Guerra will face China’s Shuang Guo, the bronze medal winner four years ago in this same event and the current leader in the world ranking.

Calling it “unfair,” the Cuban Boxing Federation on Sunday protested the decision not to overturn the ruling that ordered the elimination of boxer Jose Angel Larduet from the Olympic boxing competitions.

Tropical Storm Ernesto weakened slightly last night and is now packing 50 mph winds as it moves swiftly west heading for the Yucatan Peninsula, reported the Cuban Weather Service (INSMET) on Sunday morning.

The Cuban Weather Service (INSMET) just issued its latest report on Tropical Storm Ernesto as it approaches the central Caribbean. The projection cone is still suggesting a possible landing near Cozumel, Mexico by mid week.
