Cold Snap in Cuba Continues Wednesday

HAVANA TIMES, Jan. 13 — The current artic cold front appears to have peaked early Tuesday, with low temperatures dropping to as low as 3.7 Celsius (39 F) at Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport south of the capital.  Nonetheless, the warming on Wednesday is only expected to be slight.

The coldest temperatures were recorded in the interior and south of the western and central Cuba.  Isabel Rubio recorded 4.0 Celsius;  Tapaste, 4.2;  Aguada de Pasajeros, 5.0;  Bainoa, 5.2:  Batabanó, 5.4;  Bauta, 5.5;  Güira de Melena, 5.9;  Güines, 6.2, and Santiago de las Vegas, 6.5.  Casablanca in the capital recorded 12.2.

Jucarito in Granma, one of the hottest Cuban provinces recorded 12.7, extremely low for that area of the country, reported the local press.

The Cuban Meteorological Institute weather forecasts show temperatures remaining cold on Wednesday and rising on Thursday and Friday.
