HAVANA TIMES — Eleven players of the Granma baseball team were hit by an outbreak of diarrhea and vomiting forcing their game set for Thursday in Sancti Spiritus to be postponed, reported Cafe Fuerte.

According to Ibrahin Sanchez on his blog Zona de Strike, players Yasiel Benitez and Carlos Jiménez initially tested positive for cholera; noting that seven others were hospitalized.

The information was confirmed shortly afterwards by the provincial newspaper Escambray, which increased to 11 the number of Granma players affected by an acute diarrheal illness.

Health authorities and the Provincial Center of Hygiene and Epidemiology of Sancti Spiritus are currently investigating the cause of this patient’s diarrhea.
