Cuba Finishes 4th in World Volleyball

HAVANA TIMES, July 26 — Cuba lost its final match in a tie-breaker to Serbia to finish fourth in the 2010 Men’s World Volleyball League, the same position as last year.

Meanwhile, Brazil, the tournament favorites, needed four sets to beat Russia 3-1 and retain their title.

The Cubans led Serbia two sets to one (30-28, 20-25, 25-22) but lost the fourth and fifth. (22-25-12-15). Serbia finished second in 2009.

In the bronze medal match Nikola Kovacevic led Serbia with 25 points and Wilfredo Leon was Cuba’s top scorer with 20 points.
