HAVANA TIMES, Feb 13 — The private Cuban media initiative Estado de Sats accused the Cuban government of preventing guests from the United States from participating last Friday at one of the groups regular public panel sessions.
“The Cuban government is constantly and meticulously working on a campaign to isolate all independent efforts that publicly express disagreement with the government’s policies,” read a public statement issued by the organization.
Poet Hank Lazer and musician Andrew Raffo Dewar (who both currently live in the United States), as well as Cuban poet Juan Carlos Flores, were scheduled to participate on a panel discussing Cuba from the point of view of different cultures. However the meeting was cancelled due to the absence of the foreign visitors.
The group’s statement claims that censorship is exercised against intellectuals and artists on the island through the office of Cuban State Security and that this recent incident is not an isolated event.
