HAVANA TIMES, Nov. 2 — Cuba’s Meteorology Institute (INSMET) put out its 16th advisory on Tropical Storm Tomas at noon Tuesday noting the weather system continues moving west and now packs winds of 85 kph (50 mph).
The center of Tomas was tracked at 570 kilometers (355 miles) south of Port-au-Prince. Preparations are underway in the Haitian capital to face the storm that both INSMET and the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami say is headed its way by the weekend.
The NHC predicts that Tomas will regain hurricane status by Wednesday morning.
The INSMET report showed the tropical storm moving west at 20 kph (12 mph) on Tuesday afternoon and says it should continue to gain in both organization and intensity.
