Cuba on Top in the World Cup under 15 Baseball Finals

HAVANA TIMES — The baseball under 15 world championship began its final stage on Wednesday in Mexico with a big victory for the Cubans, who scored fourteen runs against the Nicaraguan team’s four, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

The Cuban team fired 11 hits, led by first baseman Yordan Alvarez who batted 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs, and catcher Alexander Guerra, who batted 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

The victory at Chihuahua Stadium saw Johan Oviedo pitch five innings in which he allowed four hits and two runs while striking out seven rivals.

With five straight wins, Cuba leads Group I for the current second qualifying stage, and will bump heads with Taipei China today, face Venezuela on Friday and close the round on Saturday against the Mexican hosts.
