Cuba to Issue New Identity Cards
HAVANA TIMES — The Cuban government has decided to issue a new ID card for all citizens of the island, starting in the second half of this year, in order to prevent counterfeiting, reported the Cuban News Agency.
“The new card will include –visibly- the persons identification number, home address, facial photo, signature and fingerprint, as well as a bar code with this data,” officials said.
The document will look similar to a credit card and replace the current identity cards which are issued manually with the personal data handwritten.
The changeover of the ID cards will be “gradual and targeted”, in order to give “greater protection of personal data, which will prevent false identity,” said the note.
