Cuba Travel Ban Holding Firm

HAVANA TIMES, Sept. 28 – A meeting of the House Foreign Affairs committee set for tomorrow to discuss lifting the prohibition on ordinary US citizens visiting Cuba was postponed indefinitely, announced Chairman Howard Berman on Tuesday.

The move virtually assures the issue will not come up until after the November 2nd congressional elections when Republicans are expected to make gains.

Most analysts believe such results would favor the hard line stance to keep US citizens from visiting Cuba, the only country in the world that Washington considers off bounds.  It should also bolster the position of those wanting the half century economic blockade on the island to remain in place.
