Cuban Anti-Cancer Products Tested in 12 Countries

HAVANA TIMES — Clinical trials of Cuban biotechnology products for cancer treatment are being performed today in 12 countries, said Agustin Lage, the director of the Center of Molecular Immunology, when he spoke with the Prensa Latina news agency

Cuban products are directed against 11 tumor sites, including the lungs (with two therapeutic vaccines, one registered and another one undergoing research), the head and neck, esophagus, cervix, brain tumors, pancreatic cancer, said the doctor.

The registered vaccine against advanced lung cancer and is undergoing extension at primary health care level, and is used in 65 clinics in the country, while in the case of prostate cancer, two vaccines are being tested but have not registered yet.

These and other advances of Cuban medicine are being presented at the 2012 Cuba-Health International Convention, which closes today in the Havana.
