Cuban Artists to Hold 8th Congress

HAVANA TIMES – The call for the Eighth Congress of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), was announced on Thursday during a meeting of the National Council of the organization, held in Havana, Granma newspaper reported.

According to the note, the process leading up to the Congress will take place during the second half of the year and will culminate in 2014.

At the meeting, first vice president Miguel Diaz-Canel, said that culture will never cease to be a priority.  He added that “the changes involve not only economic performance and growth material, but spiritual life and cultural values??” .

The meeting was attended by former Minister of Culture Abel Prieto, and writer Miguel Barnet, who will chair the organizing committee of the congress, composed of 45 artists and intellectuals.
