Cuban Musician Pancho Amat Completes Two New Albums

HAVANA TIMES — Pancho Amat, the virtuoso player of the “tres” (a Cuban guitar-like instrument), has just finished recording two new CDs: one with his group El Cabildo del Son and the other one with the prominent Cuban singer Argelia Fragoso, the Granma newspaper reported.

Amat will soon release a CD (instrumental) and a DVD aimed at students of the instrument and that reflects the art of its playing. “It might end up being instructive and attractive at the same time, because people always want to know how the artist thinks up the music,” said the winner of Cuba’s National Music Award.

In addition, the musician will spend the remainder of the year working on another new album with his son Daniel, a pianist of remarkable merit.

Amat’s group El Cabildo del Son recently performed to high acclaim at the Country Music Festival in Nashville, USA, and then at the Caribbean Festival held in Barranquilla, Colombia.
