Cuban Sugar Harvest Dragging

HAVANA TIMES — The costly backlog of more than 8000 tons of sugar, by mid-February impedes compliance and a successful completion of this year’s harvest, states a report in the official Granma daily.

Adverse elements this year, the note highlights, have been excessive rains , little cold weather, loss of time in the transport of the cane to the mill, industrial inefficiency, breakage and operational interruptions, and a lack of organization.

Despite the structural changes made ??in the sugar industry, the country can not seem to break the cycle of downtime and inefficiency in one of its main production lines, which has accumulated decades of experience.
