Cuba’s Dayon Robles Faces Liu Xiang in Sweden

HAVANA TIMES, Feb 23 — Rival athletes Dayron Robles of Cuba and China’s Liu Xiang will be facing off today in the 60-meter hurdles competition during the XL-Galan athletics meet in Stockholm, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

During the last encounter between the two sprinters, on Saturday in the English city of Birmingham, the Asian hurdler beat the Caribbean runner with a time of 7.41 seconds to Robles 7.50.

The Swedish event is considered the fourth most important tournament of this sport worldwide, and includes the 60, 400 and 1500 meters categories; high jumping, pole vaulting, the triple for women, the 60-meter hurdles; the 400, 800, 1500 and 3000 meter distance competitions; and the long jump for men.

Among those attending this year include the sensational Grenadian runner Kirani James (400 meters) and Russia’s Anna Chicherova (high jump).
